Brainstorming

AI brainstorming helps you generate creative ideas in an interactive workflow. You provide some basic details, or a seed of an idea, and then you work together with AI to quickly refine it.

You can access AI brainstorming under "Specialized assistance" in the AI Assistant area.

Custom brainstorming​

Custom brainstorming is the default brainstorming mode, you can use it to get ideas for any topic.

To get started, describe what you want to brainstorm, enter some context (if you have any - this is completely optional), select the brainstorm style, then click "Continue". You can also click the Icon icon to get some examples of what you can brainstorm.

You can use the Thumbs Up icon to save the ones you like to your Keepers List, and the Thumbs Down icon to clear that suggestion from your list. Alternatively, you can save any suggestion as a note.

You can click the Icon icon to generate some new suggestions that are similar to your Keepers, or you can click Icon to generate an entirely new list.

When you're done, click "Finish Brainstorming" to close the window.

Specialized brainstorming modes​

Each project type has specialized brainstorming modes, which offer more complex brainstorming flows that are optimized for each specific type of writing.

Academic paper outline​

This mode is available in Academic writing projects.

Enter a paper type, citation style, desired paper length, and the paper guidelines. The AI will suggest an outline for such paper, which you can then review and use AI to iterate until you are happy with the result.

Academic paper draft​

This mode is available in Academic writing projects.

The mode follows a multi-step process to get you a draft of a paper.

  • First, enter a paper type, citation style, desired paper length, and the paper guidelines.
  • Next, the AI will suggest an outline based on the input. You can iterate on this outline with the AI, or edit it directly.
  • Next, the AI will recommend a list of sources to use based on the input and outline. Only the sources you select will be used, so you don't have to worry about the AI inventing fake sources.
  • Finally, the AI will generate a draft of your paper. You can iterate on this draft, or use it in your project.

The AI can make mistakes, so be sure to double-check any important information.

Plot blueprint​

This mode is available in Novel projects.

The mode follow a multi-step process to map out a books key points and story structure.

  • First, enter the book premise, estimated number of chapters (from 1 to 25), genre, plot structure, and brainstorming style.
  • Next, the AI will suggest a plot summary based on the input. You can iterate on this summary with the AI, or edit it directly.
  • Finally, the AI will generate a high-level chapter-by-chapter plan for your book. You can iterate on this plan with the AI, or edit any of the chapters manually. When you are happy with the results, click "Use this chapter plan" to insert the final chapter structure into your project.

Chapter story beats​

This mode is available in Novel projects. It will generate the story beats for an individual chapter, in a way that fits the overall narrative of your book.

Enter a chapter description, role in the overall story, genre, and brainstorming style. You can also specify the preceding chapter. The AI will suggest the story beats for this chapter, which you can then review and use AI to iterate until you are happy with the result.

Story beats​

This mode is available in Story projects. It will generate the key plot points for a short story.
