Writing basics

You will be doing most of your writing in the Writing Area, which is the text editor in the middle of the project screen.

The writing area is a WYSIWYG text editor that also supports markdown shortcuts.

The top of the writing area contains the editor toolbar, which allows you to control the formatting of your text.

Depending on the project setting, some options might not be visible on the toolbar. You can also insert advanced blocks, embeds or media from the toolbar.

You can completely disable the toolbar in the settings if you just want to use markdown.

Click the Icon icon near any paragraph to bring up the context menu for that paragraph (or you can also just select the text manually).

Writing and grammar advice

Shy Editor includes a state-of-the-art intelligent grammar checker that offers suggestions and corrections as you write.

Spelling issues are highlighted in red, punctuation issues are highlighted in yellow, and style issues are highlighted in purple.

Click on any highlighted issue to bring up a menu that explains the problem and offers possible fixes.

Click on any of the suggestions to fix the issue, or click the Icon icon to ignore this issue.

Note About Grammar Checking Extensions

Shy Editor's built-in grammar checker might not work correctly if you use browser extensions that also check grammar and spelling, such as Grammarly, ProWritingAid, or similar tools. These extensions can interfere with Shy Editor's grammar suggestions, leading to missed or duplicated corrections.

For the best experience, we recommend disabling third-party grammar checkers while using Shy Editor, or disabling Shy Editors' "Writing and grammar advice" in the project settings.
